Know the Ledge
In honor of Hip Hop Month, Mocell Durden is offering the Know the Ledge course from November 3rd-December 1st, a regularly priced course of 375.00 which will this year be donation based.
This course serves to cultivate a rich and supportive means to engage in reflective and honest discourse that builds empathy toward different social and cultural lived experiences.
You do not need to have any prior knowledge of dance to participate in this course. Whether you’re negotiating, interviewing, networking, or leading a team, success depends on connecting with other people—and connecting with other people depends on your participation and making meaningful contributions.
This course provides a learning experience that not only explores the past; but speaks to our current 21st century and the social climate we are currently navigating.
Rooting Uprooted ZOOM COURSE
Unveiling the True Roots of Jazz Dance. Using the 2020 jazz dance documentary, Uprooted, as a jumping off point to further an understanding of the roots of the form, we will embark on a critical analysis of foundational people, forms, steps, stories, history, and contributions of the Black creatives and pioneers mentioned and overlooked by the film. We will allow for conversation surrounding many of the incomplete talking points in the film as well as work to correct misinformation and reveal the authentic forms of jazz dance, contrasting them with the codified, appropriated styles featured in the film and commonly taught today. Explore the continuum of jazz dance from the 1920s through the 1970s-80s, gaining a deeper understanding of its evolution, cultural significance, and why it’s called jazz dance.
